Immigration

November 21, 2008

On Saturday, Nov. 8, I witnessed a Nazi protest on the steps of our state Capitol. I was completely and totally disgusted by what I heard.

These "Americans" did not seem to grasp the equality part of the constitution. They spoke of immigrants and their undying hatred for them. I guess they forgot that our country, at one point, was made up of a majority of immigrants. These "Americans" were protesting against immigrants and Jews.

Do they not understand that people came to this country, as immigrants, for religious freedom? Do they not realize that everything they are against is everything that this country and its people stand for? Yes, everyone has the freedom of speech, and the freedom to peacefully protest, but do you really have the right to degrade someone because of their skin color or religion?

The beautiful thing about this country is its diversity, its uniqueness. Yet this group of "Americans" is protesting against those very things. They are all for "white unity" and "Americans for America," yet they are opposed to everything great about this nation. It's disappointing to know that people are so narrow minded, so naive, so hurtful. But, regardless, they have the right to voice their feelings, and thank God and our soldiers that I have the right to voice mine.
